Here are just a few quick tips to improve website SEO, a few things that anyone can do.
Refine your list of keywords
When beginning a new website, most people simply guess at the keywords they think will bring the traffic they seek. Some of these guesses are based on logic and experience, some on a gut feeling. Either way, this is not a good SEO technique. Over time though, it becomes clear which keywords are performing well, and which are not.
Refining your keywords is actually pretty simple, and there are a couple of quick and easy ways to accomplish this and, both of them are free.
The simplest way to do this is to check the site stats of your site. Make a list of the content that receives the most traffic and list the keywords used. Then, use those keywords consistently in any new content you create. This may take some time, but the benefit to you is that you already have the information right in front of you. All you need to do is begin to use it.
The second step is only a touch more complicated. It is a free service from Google. Go to Google Analytics and set up access to the information they provide. Once you’ve done this, all the information on your most popular content will be available to you at the click of your mouse. Again, find your most popular content and keywords – and use them again and again.
Keyword insertion
This one is a really quick and easy way to improve website SEO. Most websites have three main pages Home, About, Services or Products. If you have more than these three, that’s cool. You can still do this one on each page.
From your list of recently refined keywords, choose the one that is most appropriate to each page. Then, simply insert your chosen keyword into each page three times, at the beginning, middle, and end of the text. Place the first keyword within the first 50-100 words, the second in the approximate middle, and the third in the last 50-100 words. That’s it! You’ve just created optimized content that will help the search engines to find, index, and rank your site.
Create more pages
The pages on your site are what is known as “evergreen” content. This means that the content never, or rarely, changes. It is there forever, providing content for the search engines to crawl regularly. It is the most valuable, SEO-friendly content on your site. In fact, your Home Page is the most important page on your site, because something like 60% of your visitors will land there when they click through to you. This page simply must be optimized, probably with multiple keywords. Just make sure the keywords on your Home Page are relevant to the content you’ve placed there.
The quickest and easiest way to increase the number of pages on your site is to add them in your services or products section. For example, a “Services Page” will usually offer a brief description of the various services offered. This is great content, providing valuable information to both the reader and the search engines. However, you need to take it one step further.
Simply create a page for each, individual service, explaining what you do in more detail. Then, insert a link to each secondary service page from the main Services Page. Presto, you’ve just created a bunch more evergreen content for your site!
These three SEO Band-Aids won’t necessarily take you right to the top of a Google search over night, but they will improve your search results, and improve website SEO. Give them a try soonest, then track your progress. You are almost guaranteed to see positive results.
