When you visit most websites, what do you see? The first thing you usually notice is the header area. This is the top of the page, where the website name and logo appear. Below that is the menu, and below that is where the content begins, usually on the Home Page. Let’s take a look at the menu area, because this will tell us how many pages the website has. Optimizing these pages is the simplest, most effective means of improving your website SEO.
Website pages are the key to website SEO
First of course, there will be nearly always be the aforementioned “Home Page.” After that, you will usually see pages titled “About Us,” “Services,” “Testimonials,” and “Contact Us.” Now and then, you may also see something along the lines of “Portfolio,” “Resources,” “Certifications,” and “Blog,” if the site is a combination of website and blog which, for content SEO purposes, it should be.
How many of these pages actually create content for the search engines to crawl? Usually there will be four, the Home Page, the About Page, the Services Page, and possibly the Testimonials Page. That’s it, just four pages of optimized content, content that is “crawlable” by the search engines. These pages are “Evergreen Content,” they are always there, and they are incredibly valuable as website SEO tools.
Let’s assume that your website is like most others out there. This means you now have four pages of evergreen, optimized content for the search engines to crawl and find you – just 4!
Improve the content on your existing pages
Your Home Page is, by far, the most important page on your website. Why? Because, on average, this will be where 60% of the visitors to your site will land when they first visit your site. That’s a big number, 60%, and you must maximize your SEO efforts here to make sure the content has value, for the search engines and for the reader.
A properly constructed Home Page will contain more than one or two of your targeted keywords, that is, the keywords you have chosen to help the search engines find you. In fact, a well constructed Home Page may contain as many as a dozen targeted keywords. It will also contain links to your other pages, again to help the search engines find your most important content.
In essence, when your Home Page is properly constructed, it will lead the search engines right through your website to the content you want them to find.
Beyond your Home Page, each page on your Menu should also be fully optimized. You should choose targeted keywords for each page, including your About Us, Services, and Testimonials Pages. Each of these pages should contain 1-3 of your most effective keywords. Plus, your Services Page should contain at least one targeted keyword for each of the services you offer.
The most effective strategy for improving your search results is to fully optimize each of your pages using your targeted keywords. Only when you do this will your efforts at SEO prove worthwhile.
Increase the number of your “crawlable” pages
The single most effective place to increase the number of your crawlable pages is in the Services area. After making sure that your Main Service Page is fully optimized, and that it offers a brief but comprehensive description of each service, you should create a new, fully optimized page for each service you offer. By doing this, you increase the number of optimized, evergreen pages dramatically.
Let’s suppose for a moment that you offer ten services at your site. Right now, you have four optimized pages to attract the search engines. If you simply add a page for each of the services you offer, your site will suddenly have 14 Optimized Pages for the search engines to crawl. That is an increase of 250%! That is big! That is valuable! That is SEO at its best!
Remember, the pages on your site are evergreen content. That means they are there forever. They will always be there for the search engines crawl; to find, index, and rank your site. They are, by far, the most valuable optimized content you can place on your website, and – they always will be.
Improving website SEO does not have to be difficult. If you follow these simple steps, it is virtually guaranteed that your site will rise in the search results, and it will happen more quickly than you would have believed possible.
